Growing up surfing in Southern California, I developed a deep love and respect for the ocean. At the age of 14, I began my quest to better understand the weather as it pertained to surfing. I educated myself to understand how these massive pacific storms generated huge swells. I learned the theories behind swell direction, tide and the wind conditions which affected my local surf spots. My goal was to know when and where the best waves would be on any given day. That’s where I wanted to be. What does this have to do with Thunderstorms you might ask? When I was a little boy, I used to be terrified of Thunderstorms. Even the slightest flicker of lightning or the softest rumble of thunder would send me jumping into my parents bed, trembling with fear. In fact, my older brothers would often tease me and make fun of be because I was so scared of thunder and lightning. Yet, it was this fear that began to fuel my passion for severe weather. In 1998 while looking through a weather magazine, I noticed an advertisement for a storm-chasing tour. I sent in my deposit and committed myself to going on this trip with the hopes to not only see a Tornado, but to experience some of the most violent weather on the face of our planet. Of course I had some major fears to overcome as well. So now, 8 years later, my passion for storms continues to grow, and I look forward to every opportunity I get to enjoy this new passion. Weather it’s monsoon season in Southern California or spring time across the Great Plains of America, I will do my best to be where the action is. So yeah, I am still surfing, but now I’m surfing the skies, Surfing the front....Home_files/M.%20clouds%20-1.jpg
